Hundreds of thousands of Filipino Catholics rallied today in a show of force against a proposed reproductive health law.
The Archdiocese of Manila and various “pro-life” groups led the prayer rally and Mass was officiated by Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales of Manila.
The rally carried the theme “Filipinos! Unite Under God for Life” and coincided with the Feast of the Annunciation, which the activists have declared as the Day of Unborn Children.
Pro-Life Philippines said Pope Benedict VI has sent a “special message” which reportedly includes a “special indulgence” for all who will attend to Filipinos that would be read during the prayer rally.
At the House of Representatives, leading proponents of the controversial reproductive health (RH) measure withdrew several provisions of the bill, including a section “encouraging” limiting families to two children, hours before the start of the protest.
In a letter to priests, religious and laity of the archdiocese, Cardinal Rosales said the rally was for all those who value family and life values.
He urged the clergy and all Catholics to join the event to show “that our country will never allow the repressive bill to be passed.”
Similar activities were also held in other major cities.
But leftist lawmaker Neri Colmenares of Bayan Muna (Nation First) said the “silent majority of  Catholics” are in favour of the passage of the proposed measure in Congress to make individuals responsible for planning their families.
“As a practising Catholic, I believe the majority of us are in favor of the RH bill, having understood the salient provisions of the bill that would protect the reproductive health of women,” Neri said.
He said most legislators are in favor of the passage of the proposed measure, adding he is confident the “silent majority” of Filipinos are also for it.
In Cagayan de Oro in the southern Philippines, civil society and religious groups called for an “open and fair discussion” on reproductive health.
President Benigno Aquino, who was invited by the bishops to attend the gathering in Manila, said the government “cannot close our eyes to the reality of our huge population, that is why the state should address it along with other issues like maternal and child health.”
He said the centerpiece of the government’s policy is the promotion of responsible parenthood, which includes raising the awareness of those of reproductive age about the consequences, good or bad, of bearing children.
He clarified that his administration is against abortion.

God loves us! :))

Prayers are offered not only when there are calamities, it is only the time when we need it the most but everyday is a day to pray. We should know how to give thanks to our God for every morning, day and every breath He gives us, for all the blessings of hope, love and the presence of the people we love and we should be sorry for all the wrong things we've done. Everyday, talk to God and see how light you would feel, how satisfied you are and how you would be delighted in every seconds of your life. Praying gives us this feeling of warmth when we're cold, feeling of happiness after solving a problem, comfort after a sorrow. It's like a feeling when you passed all your subjects, the feeling of being satisfied or even being full after being hungry, relaxing after doing all your school works, and sleeping in silence at the end of the day. God is not only called when we are in need, when we are suffering, having problems and having hard times. We, people are hurt by the reality that there are people who will only remember us in times when they are in trouble or in need of something but when the times they are full of happiness and joy, it's as if we didn't exist. We should know how to talk to God every day of our lives, not just because someone said so, but because as the people of God, communication to Him is really a must and it is the right thing to do. If we can stay several hours talking to someone on the phone, hurting our eyes staying at night just to chat with someone, and stand for hours when you met someone on the street just to have a conversation with him/her, what more having time to talk to our Creator, to our Father, to our God? Isn't it worthy after all? Isn't it a feeling of joy and happiness? Isn't it a feeling of comfort? Think. :))

Let's continue to pray for the people in Japan, Libya, and New Zealand. Let's ask for the guidance of God to keep all of us away from harm or danger and to let peace and love enter each and everyone's heart. God bless people!

He is there, have faith

A lot of "not-so-good" happenings occurred recently - quake, storm, flood, war, violent killings and a lot more. Different people in different places experienced misfortunes or better, say, challenges. I'm afraid that would do something about the predictions about 2012, which may be true or may not be, no one knows, only God. But through it all, we should know how to stand up again, be stronger, begin a new life and we should draw closer to God. We should know that in times like this, in the arms of our Father is the best and safest place to be in.

-  lines that I usually hear when riding an LRT. Hand rails serve as a grip for the passengers so as they would not fall or tumble while the train is running. People who are not able to take a hold on those rails,  would just try to keep their balance but there are times that no matter how hard you try to keep yourself balanced, you just can't do so, like what I sometimes experienced. Just like in life, you can't always stay focus only on yourself, we're responsible for each other, you just can't always go on by yourself, you need someone to hold on., we need someone to lean on to. As the saying says, "No man is an island." People need someone on their sides in order to feel that they are love, to give love, to share happiness with, to have someone to help you with the chores, to have someone whom you can have a duet with, someone who you can chat with and even the simplest, someone just to stay beside you even in the silence. But when you feel that you're all alone and the world has turned you down, there He is! He, who stays beside you for all the time, He, who is willing to help you in everything you do, He who has unconditional love for you, He who is willing to do everything for you  and He who already risked His life just to save you, and He did and still does these without any conditions, without expecting nothing in return, it is because HE LOVES YOU, HE LOVES US! So with our situation now, we should not lose hope, He is there. Instead of wasting our time thinking and worrying if the world will really going to end in the year 2012, why don't just spend our time living life at its best? why don't just spend more time with your love ones? why don't just repent and turn back to God? and why don't deepen our love to God, just believe and hold on to Him. Worrying doesn't change anything, it only makes things worse. Don't you dare say that the things happening are punishments of God, you're absolutely mistaken! God is love and will not do anything that  will hurt His people. He will not give us problems that we can't handle. Instead of finding someone to blame for all the things happening in your life, reflect, and bear in mind, you're the one who's responsible for what's going on with your life. In times like this, it's not good to be apart from God, instead, we should tighten our hold on Him and embrace Him the most. Everything has its reason. Everything, everyone changes. Unlike in mathematics, in life, there are no constants, only variables. You may experience happiness, joy, fun but you can also suffer, grief, and be saddened. All of those are essential in life. Just remember, He is there and He knows best.

Despite these heartbreaking occurrences in our world, remember the lyrics from a song, "God is watching us from a distance.." God is our refuge, God is our Savior. He is our Father, He is our Creator. No matter what happens, for sure and for always, He is there, have faith.

God bless everyone! :))
